WPD contracted us to construct a new 33/11kV primary substation on a brown field site, as part of a redevelopment of the area. The site had been previously owned by Rolls Royce and its factory buildings had been demolished and cleared to ground slab level prior to purchase.
Below-ground slabs, basements and structures remained and had to be dealt with. All broken concrete arising was crushed off site and recycled as sub-base for the new compound.
The works consisted of a new 11kV switch house building with a RC basement, also accommodating a WC and third party metering room.
The WC was served by a 2800 ltr sealed cess pool unit and a water service taken 100m to the public highway.
Above ground, the new switch house was constructed traditionally with masonry cavity walling and galvanised steel wind posts.
